All right, I actually have 2 routers, but only 1 connection (so only 1 is running at a time). They are both wireless G routers and both linksys. I know there is not interference from someone near by, because my closest neighbor is about a mile away. The router is in the basement, two floors below where I normally am.
For the longest time, I had the older linksys (sorry I don’t know the model numbers or anything) going, it has 2 directional antennas on it. I left this router unsecured because it was easier at the same time. For the most part that one worked just fine. My wireless printer was connected to it, and everything worked no problem. Except for the occasional internet disconnection. The signal was still there but I’d just lose internet ability. All we had to do was reset the router and it would be fine. This had no effect on my printer connected to it or anyone’s computer; the one computer, at the time, that was on a wired connection never had this problem.
Now, my mom just got a new computer so she got her own router then along with her own wireless printer and a computer with a wireless card. I set everything up; secured this router and connected her computer and printer to the network. (I have windows 7, so I hadn’t set up my printer to the new network.) After a few days the router randomly switched from secured to unsecured. Ever since then that one would constantly drop signal where I am, or switch from a linksys (2) and a linksys (5) and would prevent me from connecting to it, and my mom would have to call HP (printer model) and have them guide her through reinstalling her printer again.
I have now switched back to the old router that I had set up before, and the problem seems to have stopped. But time will only tell. Can someone help me with either of the two router problems? It is very annoying and stressful, considering I get blamed and charged with fixing it.
